Mr Carlin was an English teacher of small stature but with expansive ideas. He is seen here about to be crushed by the school library in one of the last Minos scenes. It was not uncommon for an English period to be spent listening to a Goon Show on vinyl or writing an essay on the subject of "A Brick". It was he, who during a reading of Twelfth Night for "O" Level English cast David Line (whose voice had yet to break) as the sea captain with Roger Sloman (whose voice had broken) as Viola.
Who is this man? Believed to be a trainee English teacher his name has disappeared into the mists of time. |
Deputy Headmaster and "angel" Dr Alan Badcock gave a fleeting performance during filming in his office at Forest Hill School. The clip satirised the school`s public address system often used, just before breaks and during inclement weather, to announce if it was "officially" or "unofficially" raining and so determining if pupils should stay in the building or make their way to their allotted playgrounds. Few pupils realised that during the Second World War Dr Badcock had been a key figure in the development of radar. At FHS he taught physics and is remembered by many as a strict - but fair-minded - disciplinarian.
History teacher Paul "Count Creep" Ashbee returns to the feared Room 101 for his keys as FHS crumbles around him. Noted for his accuracy with a blackboard rubber at 20ft, his description of the execution of Charles I and nis non-existent acting abilities, the Count was one of the best loved members of staff at the school. He was at one time a leading adviser to the Ministry of Public Buildings, Works and Ancient Monuments and author of "Round Barrows in Bronze Age Britain". He left FHS to take up a chair atthe University of East Anglia
